Gippsland

Gippsland occupies the vast eastern corner of Victoria. There you can find natural landscapes of unparalleled beauty. You may find short walks around quaint seaside villages or long day hikes and/or pack carry overnight hikes in and around alpine towns. Walks along the beaches are also a must for discovering local wildlife and the ever changing coastline of shifting sands. Wilsons Promontory, just three hours from Melbourne, is known for its stunning bush and coastal scenery and acclaimed walking trails. There are many day hikes available in the area, and also some great 2-5 day overnight hiking options. If you are experienced enough you can explore the unmaintained northern circuit of Wilsons Promontory. When out of the ski season, Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort is most popular for hikers with many walking options in and around the area. Continue east to Croajingolong National Park, a World Biosphere Reserve. With more than 100 kilometres of pristine coastline and hinterland, it is a great place to go bushwalking.
