Alice Springs to Oodnadatta coverage is from Oodnadatta and Marla in the south to Alice Springs, Glen Helen and Ross River HS in the north and includes the Old Ghan Route, Old Andado and the Stuart Highway. A feature of all Westprint maps is the amount of text of historic and tourist interest.
The map contains numbered symbols cross-referenced to detailed information on each numbered site. Intermediate and major distances are clearly shown and there are symbols for fuel locations, rest areas, caravan parks and camp sites. Early explorers routes have been colour-coded. There are also GPS co-ordinates.
The Old Andado Track is part of one popular access between Oodnadatta and Alive Springs. It passes through Andado Station, the ‘farthest out’ of all the Simpson Desert cattle stations and one of the larger Australian cattle properties. Old Andado Homestead has been faithfully preserved and maintained in a style similar to the 1920s when it was first built. From Andado it is a great drive through the Finke Floodplain to the remarkable springs in Witjira National Park.
Visitors to this area will see a wide diversity of terrain ranging from rugged mountain ranges and large river valleys to spectacular desert landscapes and majestic desert oaks. Travellers should be aware that although this is a beautiful area in which to travel it is still a remote area where mistakes can end in tragedy.
