If you haven’t done so already, check out our Great South West Walk hiking trail summary or go back to GSWW Section 11 – Swan Lake Camp via Mt Richmond to Tarragal Camp. Else, let us continue on with this twelfth section of the Great South West Walk from Tarragal Camp to The Springs Camp.
The walk out of Tarragal Camp is quite pleasant downhill all the way to the coast through farmlands and past Bridgewater Lakes. Be prepared for significant elevation gains over the following sections as the hiking trails weave up and down along the coast. It can be quite hard going so enjoy this first shorter section and get a good nights rest for the following 17.5km section that has 575m of elevation gain.
The Springs Camp is a grassy overnight walkers camp in Discovery Bay Coastal Park set amongst coastal scrub. The campsite offers shared table, seasonal tank water (treat before drinking), shelter and toilet. A shared fireplace is provided but fuel stoves are preferred by Parks Victoria.
