Ingliston Granites

Written by | Daylesford/Macedon Ranges

Ingliston Granites is a 5km hike along Ironbark Gorge Track that continues on to Ingliston Granites in Werribee Gorge State Park.

This is a one way track that you’ll need to return along the same path to get back to your car at the carpark on Ballan Ingliston Road just out of Bacchus Marsh.

Ingliston Granites is an unmarked track. I imagine that it existed once upon a time because it is still marked out, however it may have been invaded by private properties since half of the hiking trail follows along property fence lines. The final destination of this hike is a little uneventful, however the landscapes along the way are rather enjoyable.

This is a Grade 3 walk. Total distance of the track is 5km. Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may have short steep hill sections a rough surface and many steps.

The trail descends slowly initially…

…and then a little quicker down these stairs.

Along the way you’ll pass through many different landscapes.

You’ll want to turn LEFT here towards Ingliston Granites.

Follow the sign to Ingliston Granites

Shortly up ahead look for another sign pointing RIGHT.

TURN RIGHT here.

The trail becomes a little indistinct along here. Keep left wherever possible.

Follow the trail when you see it, not the kangaroo tracks.

Follow the fence line along the left where possible from here.

The fence continues around to the left. follow it.

Continue down and across the field towards the gate.

Continue through the gate and follow the fence line.

Turn left, follow the fence.

OK, here you may follow the track to the RIGHT. Technically you are still following the fence on the left though.

Ingliston Granites. Not much to see. Strange. Although if you walk down the hill towards the gully a bit then there are a few views to be had.

Once you’re done having a look around, head back along the way you came.

Once again follow the fence back wherever you can.

Turn LEFT when you get back to the sign.

And turn RIGHT here to head back towards the carpark.

Head back up the stairs towards the carpark.

Welcome back to the carpark. If you’d like to do another short walk, you can head to the next car park along the road where you will find Ingliston Gorge Walk.
